There are many different forms of gambling, but it may be a problem if it’s difficult to stop thinking about, you feel like you can’t stop, or losses are resulting in debt.
If you’re worried about your own or someone else's gambling, we have support available to help you.
How we can support you to stop gambling
Reduce ATM withdrawal limit
You can reduce the amount of cash you’re able to withdraw from your debit card on a daily basis from an ATM. For further information, please visit us in branch, or call us on 03457 404 404.
Put a restriction on your debit cards
You can add or remove gambling restrictions on your debit cards (including Pay by Bank app)1. Adding a gambling restriction lets you block transactions made to gambling related merchants, such as casinos and online betting companies, and recurring transactions such as The Postcode Lottery2. When a restriction is active we'll treat it as an instruction from you to block payments we know or suspect are for gambling purposes. We can't guarantee we'll be able to block all gambling transactions, and you'll still be liable for any that do go through. You’ll receive a text message every time a gambling related transaction is declined on your behalf.
How to add or remove a restriction
- Select the account you hold the debit card for.
- Select ‘Manage cards’ then ‘Gambling restrictions'.
- Select from your list of eligible cards and review the on screen information.
- Select ‘Turn on restriction’ to confirm you wish to proceed.
- Repeat the steps above for any additional eligible cards.
To remove a gambling restriction, follow the steps above and select ‘Turn off restriction’ to confirm for the relevant card.
You can also get support by calling us or visiting us in branch. To download the app:
Cooling off period
We’ve introduced a cooling off period whenever there’s a request to remove the restriction. This means you can choose to remove a gambling restriction at any time, but transactions will still be declined for 3 days after the restriction is switched off. This cooling off period allows you time to consider if the decision to gamble is right for you. If you change your mind during the cooling off period and want to continue with the restriction, the removal can be cancelled.
Restrictions on credit cards
From 14 April 2020, all UK Licensed Gambling Operators can no longer accept credit cards for gambling. To support this, all transactions using credit cards that we believe are for gambling purposes will be declined.
